A Modern Day Workplace Dilemma -- Sexual Harassment

A 1500-employee county government entity determined the need for training in harassment, specifically sexual harassment. The organization’s growth and multi-cultural workforce coupled with more women and men in non-traditional roles resulted in making this educational training part of the strategic plan for the county.

Nyda Bittmann was contracted to design and develop a customized training program. She created managerial and employee versions incorporating a video tape depicting numerous types of harassment examples. The county attorney approved both the programs content and video. The four hour programs are interactive and results-oriented. The objective is to heighten awareness of harassment among the employees and managers, have the employees assume responsibility to create and maintain an environment free of any harassment and understand the organization’s anti-harassment policy. She rolled out the program to all 1500 employees over a year and a half time period.

To supplement the training, on-going periodic workshops are conducted for new hires to ensure understanding of the organization’s attention and focus on this initiative.

To date, no actual charges seeking litigation have been filed.
