Bruce Henzell
Bruce E. Henzell has, during 35 years as an Anglican Minister, devoted himself to gaining a wide range of competencies that are helpful to individuals, churches and other organisation in the quest for greater health and effectiveness.
Born in Brisbane, Australia, he matriculated from the Brisbane Grammar School and gained his first degree, Bachelor of Surveying, from the University of Queensland. Very soon after, he offered and was accepted for missionary service with the Anglican (Episcopal) Church in Papua New Guinea. After initially surveying for the Mission, he entered theological college and gained a Bachelor of Divinity Degree and a Graduate Diploma of Education, again from the University of Queensland.
Service in the mission field of Papua New Guinea included time on a remote mission station and two years as a lecturer in the theological college before returning to Australia to work in western and southeast Queensland. Bruce’s passion for seeing people grow towards their potential was initially shown in teaching the 2 year Bethel Bible course in Charleville, a small remote town in south west Queensland. On coming to the city he consistently built on his repertoire of courses to assist individuals and congregations make all-member ministry – including ministry in daily life - a reality.
The repertoire includes many courses of communication and caring, conflict management and resolution, emotional and spiritual intelligence, etc, created by Dr John Savage, plus Neuro Linguistic Programming and courses in Bible mastery, small group leadership, personal evangelism, gift identification, couple communication, and parent and youth effectiveness. Bruce also developed skills in counselling, supervision, spiritual direction and various forms of consultation with individuals, groups, churches and other organisations.
Consultancies for other-than-church bodies have included a major power station and a local government facility.
Apart from leading parishes, Bruce has been involved throughout the diocese in:
- the encouragement and discernment of vocations to ordained ministry,
- the supervision and formation of ordination candidates
- post-ordination training in communication and conflict management and resolution,
- the facilitation of envisioning and strategic planning for many parishes, and as a member of
- the Diocese’s Clergy Placements Board, and
- the Diocese’s Professional Standards Implementation Task Group.
